Spice Road Table

Written by Meghan B.

Take a stroll along the World Showcase Lagoon, and you will come upon Spice Road Table, situated along the lagoon at the front of the Morocco Pavilion. The beautifully decorated indoor and outdoor dining rooms make this the perfect spot for some daytime people watching or enjoying the nighttime fireworks. Upon entering the restaurant’s central lobby you’ll be struck by the beauty and grandeur of the bar. Features such as its intricate tile work, magnificent wood details, ornate metal and glass chandeliers, stunning jewel-tone colors, and the peekaboo windows overlooking the pavilion’s iconic water wheel truly make this a showcase bar and lobby.

The covered outdoor patio is the perfect spot to enjoy a leisurely meal and some people watching on those occasions when the Florida weather chooses to cooperate. You can seek refuge from those overbearing hot and humid summer days and occasional down pores in the colorful contemporary Moroccan decor of the indoor dining room. Dining at night? Then you are in luck! Spice Road Table offers the perfect vantage point to enjoy IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth. Whether you chose the floor to ceiling windows of the indoor dining room or openness of the outdoor patio, Spice Road Table is one of the most coveted spots to view the fireworks. Be sure to make your reservations as soon as possible.

Stunning décor and great viewing spot for fireworks is not all the Spice Road Table has going for it. The food here is amazing! Spice Road Table was my first foray into Mediterranean food. Our waiter was extremely patient helping us first timers decide what to try. He answered our multitude of questions and was happy to guide us through the menu with suggestions and recommendations. The first dish to come to our table was the hummus and imported olives. This comes with two types of hummus, plain and tomato. It is served with marinated olives and Za’atar flat bread. It was love at first bite. The tomato hummus definitely had a more pronounced fresh tomato taste, but that plain classic hummus was my favorite. It was rich and smooth, and the flavors just exploded in my mouth. I have yet to try a hummus that can live up to the hummus at Spice Road Table. Next, we tried the rice stuffed grape leaves, which had a light, clean and fresh taste to them that I really enjoyed. The Brie fondue was another one of my favorites, but come on, who doesn’t like baked gooey cheese? The harissa chicken roll comes to the table looking a lot like a Chinese egg roll. But this is no ordinary egg roll, it is delicate, crispy, and full of flavor. The roll is stuffed with chicken, rice, corn, and cilantro. The harissa ketchup, which is flavored with a North African chili sauce, is what really takes this dish to the next level. The ketchup has a bit of spice and bite to it, but it’s not overpowering.

At this point, I was so pleasantly full that I could not possibly eat another bite. Then, our waiter said the magic words, “would you like dessert,” and suddenly I wasn’t so full anymore. Being the chocoholics that we are, we decided to try the chocolate pyramid. The pyramid is shaped chocolate mousse with a hidden surprise of vanilla cream on the inside and it is served with a scoop of almond ice cream on the side. It was light, full of flavor, not overly sweet, and the perfect end to a fantastic meal.

Spice Road Table is the ultimate blend of great service, wonderful atmosphere, and amazing food. Sitting on the patio; looking over the lagoon; enjoying some hummus; you almost forget for a moment that you are in Epcot and not in the middle of a little Moroccan café. I have enjoyed a lot of meals around the World Showcase Lagoon, but I have to say my experience at Spice Road Table has truly been one of my favorites and I can’t wait to experience it all over again.
